Jan De Vliegher (°1964 – Brugge)

Jan De Vliegher (°1964 – Brugge) considers painting as a vector of pictorial beauty and pleasure. Observing and painting go hand in hand, with skillful accuracy. Time and again, he succeeds in adding the right touch to the right place. In a suggestive manner, he bends observed reality to his will without violating it. The upshot of this is a particularly nonchalant signature which stirs the imagination through its unfinished character.

This website features fragments from a series of paintings Jan finished in 2008 (Capitool). Jan took his inspiration from a visit to the ‘Hall of Emperors – Musei Capitolini’,  where one finds statues of the emperors, empresses and other Heroes of the Imperial Age.
